Getting Down To Basics with Education
Classroom Behavior And How It Can Be Managed
When you are teaching students in high school the action that you deal with mostly is inappropriate behavior as well as reduced study skills. Growing up also involves having some behavior issues for most children. For some, it is more severe than others. This behavior is what distinguishes the individual kids from the regular ones. Let’s look at several ways you can manage classroom behavior.
Come up with behavioral expectations and tell it to them. Concerning their behavior tell the students what is required of them at the start of every school year. Create states that will keep the students in check from the first day they attend school. The standards should be established together with the students and make sure that they become part of the class. If someone is doing something wrong come up with sighs that will signal them to stop doing what they are doing. Look closely to see if the laws are being developed.
Inform them of their behavior after you have monitored it for some time. If a student has forms of disruptive behavior curb it at early stage and always stay close to them and understand them well. Use severe voice and gestures to remind a student who is involved in bad behavior. Rewarding ethical behavior is something you should always do in a classroom.
Reinforcement such us social, exercise, physical, consumable and harmful strengthening should be applied in making sure that the rules are followed. Instead of appreciating good behavior with physical reward one could use tokens. For a later day the tokens can be used as backup reinforcement. If the students are more advanced in age you should use contingency contracts. The contract is made by both you and the student stating that they will get a particular reward for good behavior. Shaping is a way that you use to prepare good action in small steps. Shaping can be used to introduce functional practice or enforce to the one living.
Use models to show the kind of behavior that you need from the student. In order for the rest of the students to understand when one of them has good behavior use them as an example. In the presence of the other classmates teach a student who has behaved wrongly so that the rest can learn. This way you will be meeting on both sides. The students should be part of coming up with a behavioral program, for example, making the goals, being responsible of themselves not to make mistakes, doing a personal evaluation of how they have behaved and the reward they should get. Parents should also be part of the behavior management program, so it is useful.
